The trouble with an industrial heritage project or a ‘clocky’ one is getting rid of what you don’t want and finding the bits you do. We sometimes get in trouble when we raise the question ‘what is the purpose of your project?’ ‘Why are you collecting, what is the purpose of it and what do you hope to achieve?’
This is because we are purpose driven. What we don’t want is for you to waste your time and energy. Focus is the key and the way forward collaboration. Before onamission we had islands of expertise and bits and pieces of industrial heritage all over the place. It does not have to be that way, if you see these islands as pieces of the jigsaw puzzle, and an organisation like us as the picture on the puzzle box, we can re-arrange and organise until the puzzle is solved.
Well the situation is more like an infinite number of puzzles, the pieces all spread out in private collections. What is rubbish to one person the missing link to another.
If that does not make sense, its simple, communications, we now have that and a way forward for like minded people to get together and collaboration, the internet and specifically the clubs we run. The next level is to provide a way for people to exchange one bit of the puzzle for another.
Its also important to declare your interest, your project and its purpose, this way like minded people can get together. This saves on duplication and allows you to focus on what's really important, the project. We know the importance of the treasure trail, but why make it difficult, especially for new comers? The progress of the internet has removed all boundaries, you don’t have to attend every auction, their is the invaluable database (links within the club and much more)..... If your thing is the treasure hunt, then you can still do it the old fashioned way or explore the new advances of the internet. I t is hoped by asking the questions at the beginning of the script that you may consider the purpose of your project and hopefully realise the importance of the time and effort that goes into www.got2own.co.uk .
