In the same way industrial heritage encapsulates innovation and creativity, so its important to keep alive craft. Lost and we lose some of the threads that make up a design, and lead to new products. Again, bringing the best from the past and integrating it with modern techniques and technology. Everybody has the ability to think and design, but in the main these dreams get over burdened by modern life. We seem to get ‘dis-engaged’ with the items we purchase and use. What is meant by this, well if you remember early cars, you did not need the computer in the garage to test them, simple tools where sufficent for home repairs, early computers you wrote your own software. Now products are being designed to isolate you from this process. This is a mistake as its the breading ground for progress and ideas. Customers should be empowered and allowed to shape the products marketed. Ironically, this is the age that this process should zenith, with the rapid communications of the internet, so the path is their, we need to find new approaches to making the best of it. |
