The importance of the pendulum is so fundamental that it must be surely the most significant ‘physical prompt’ in society? It leads to an understanding of time, instrumentation, science, gravity and the fact we are a spinning sphere, rotating at speeds far greater than we would care to think about, in an infinite universe.
The race4time project addresses the need to;
Make sure;
1) pendulums are seen in society and not perceived as redundant. 2) information is provided that opens up the ‘gateways’ to science and engineering. 3) that new clocks, such as illusionary clocks, continue to be designed and valued, allowing the magic of the past to be bought into future generations imagination. 4) that the pendulum and its importance is within the very fabric of the education and media systems. 5) Able to relate and encourage involvement of the next generation.
We have;
1) encouraged installments within public places. 2) developed a competition, the race4time. a) facilities projects and challenges within school, college & university b) formed an international competition that relates time to environment and the properties of the solar system and beyond. c) encourages designer to think of new products that involve the magic of the pendulum. 3) developed instrumentation, a framework and details of manufacture and prevision of kits.
As you can see its a big project and the energy and excitement immense to make it an international project, the like of which has never been seen before.
